Żabka Group targets 16,000 convenience stores by 2028

Retail network sets ambitious growth plans amid strong performance in Poland and Romania.

Żabka Group is significantly accelerating its convenience store expansion strategy as part of a revised growth plan aimed at expanding its position in Europe’s convenience market. The company now expects to open more than 1,300 new stores each year between 2025 and 2028, up from its previous forecast of 1,300 in 2025 and 1,000 annually thereafter.

By the end of 2028, Żabka plans to operate around 16,000 stores across Poland and Romania, roughly 1,500 more than projected at the time of its IPO. The updated targets reflect strong sales performance at newly opened stores, growing consumer demand for convenience retail, and a robust pipeline of prime retail sites in both markets.

“Żabka Group is entering a new phase of its growth trajectory,” said Tomasz Blicharski, Group Chief Strategy & Development Officer. “The strategy rests on sustained organic growth, driven by network enlargement, resilient like-for-like performance and the scaling of its digital ecosystem.”

The company sees long-term potential for nearly 27,000 stores across Poland and Romania, more than doubling its current network and underscoring the scale of future growth opportunities.

At the end of June 2025, Żabka operated 11,793 stores, up 10.8% from the previous year. The company remains focused on organic growth but has not ruled out mergers and acquisitions to support its core business development.
