ACCIONA Energía acquires Iberian operator of Shell Recharge
Acquisition of Cable Energía adds over 700 charging points and strengthens the company’s position in Spain and Portugal’s e-mobility market.
ACCIONA Energía has expanded its footprint in the e-mobility sector with the acquisition of Cable Energía, the company that owns and operates Shell’s Recharge network outside of service stations in Spain and Portugal.
The deal includes 396 active electric vehicle (EV) charging points across the Iberian Peninsula, strategically located in high-traffic areas such as restaurants, shopping centers, supermarkets, hotels, and along major highways.
In addition, the company will take over a development pipeline of 321 more chargers that are either under construction or awaiting grid connection.
With this acquisition, ACCIONA accelerates the rollout of a smart charging network powered by renewable energy, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable transportation infrastructure in key demand zones.
The company entered the EV charging market in late 2021 through a dedicated business unit as part of its broader strategy to offer comprehensive decarbonization solutions to its energy clients.
Today, ACCIONA Energía provides access to more than 4,000 charging points, including both its own and those operated by partners. It is currently building the largest public charging hub in Madrid and has secured agreements to deploy over 1,000 additional public charging stations across Spain.
