Alfred Stern will assume the position as Chairman of the Executive Board and CEO of OMV effective September 1, 2021. Stern was appointed by the OMV Supervisory Board in June 2021 for a three-year period with an extension option for further two years subject to mutual consent.

The Executive Board responsibility for the Chemicals & Materials business remains with Alfred Stern for the time being, says OMV.

“OMV stands on the cusp of a major transformation in the direction of chemicals and a circular economy. A transformation in which a large portfolio will need to be managed across a far-reaching value chain (...) His [Alfred Stern’s] specialist expertise as well as his international management and CEO experience in the chemical industry make him the ideal candidate to lead this transformation,” commented on the appointment Mark Garrett, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of OMV.

Alfred Stern was born in Styria (Austria) in 1965. He was CEO of Borealis AG between 2018 and 2021, after holding several leading positions within the same company. He completed a Master’s in Polymer Engineering and then achieved a PhD in Material Science from the University of Leoben.
