Allego has announced plans to invest €100 million in the UK electric vehicle (EV) charging market, with the goal of installing up to 1,400 new ultra-rapid chargers by 2030. The rollout will target high-traffic and densely populated areas, with London identified as a key priority for deployment.

The company said the UK represents one of the largest growth opportunities for EV charging infrastructure in Europe, citing increasing demand for EVs and a public charging network that remains relatively underdeveloped compared with other markets.

As part of the expansion, Allego will partner with retail and hospitality businesses to host charging stations. Under the company’s operating model, Allego finances, builds, owns and manages the chargers, allowing site partners to generate long-term lease income without taking responsibility for operating the equipment.

“This €100 million commitment reflects our confidence in the UK EV market,” said Steven Salo, executive officer at Allego. “The UK is electrifying quickly, but to keep up with demand the charging network must expand at the same pace.”

Salo highlighted the need for additional high-power charging infrastructure, particularly along major road corridors and in and around the British capital.

“We believe that the new Government will make the right policy decisions to help this market grow. With a supportive and stable policy and investment environment, the EV charging sector can deliver a significant economic growth opportunity for the UK while providing the infrastructure increasingly needed by drivers and businesses,” he added.

By focusing on urban centers and heavily traveled routes, Allego aims to strengthen charging availability and support the UK's transition to electric mobility over the remainder of the decade.
