Ampol has entered into an agreement to acquire electric vehicle (EV) charging network operator Evie Networks for A$225 million (approximately $145 millions), a move that would significantly expand its EV charging footprint across Australia.

The acquisition, which remains subject to approval from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), will see Ampol acquire 100% of Fast Cities Australia Pty Ltd, the company behind Evie Networks. If completed, the transaction will add more than 1,030 charging bays to Ampol’s existing network.

Combined with Ampol’s AmpCharge network, the expanded platform would comprise approximately 1,425 charging bays across more than 400 sites nationwide, making it one of Australia’s largest public EV charging networks.

The deal comes as EV adoption continues to grow in Australia. According to Ampol, EVs have accounted for more than 20% of new vehicle sales on average over the past five months.

“For Ampol, EV charging is ultimately a question of disciplined investment at the right time,” said Matt Halliday, Managing Director and CEO of Ampol. He added that Evie’s network offers the company an opportunity to expand its charging presence “at scale and at pace.”

The company reported strong growth across its existing charging business, with charging sessions on the AmpCharge network increasing 116% and energy delivered rising 120% during the first half of 2026 compared with the previous year.

The transaction is expected to be completed in the first half of 2027. Until regulatory approval is obtained, Ampol and Evie will continue to operate as separate businesses.
