AXION energy's refinery recognized as the best in Latin America
The plant located in Buenos Aires was awarded by the International Refining Association as the best facility of the year for its good practices and optimization of operations.
AXION energy’s refinery located in Buenos Aires, Argentina, has been recognised as the best refinery of the year in Latin America. The award was given by the World Refining Association during the Latin American Refining Technology Conference in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The company invested US$1.5 billion to optimize environmental performance and improve product quality at its facility. This is the largest investment in the last 35 years in the refining sector for the company.
AXION received the recognition thanks to its achievements in energy efficiency and environmental commitment, as well as its leadership in transitioning to new production models and implementing new technologies in operations.
"All of this is reflected today in a refinery that is operating at the highest levels of capacity utilization, safety, efficiency and profitability," said Diego Mouriño, vice president of Downstream Operations at AXION energy.
The company achieved a 7-point reduction in its energy intensity index for operations and invested in decarbonization technologies. This resulted in the first Argentine refinery to have 100% of its gas oil production with less than ten parts per million of sulfur.
