bp appoints Ian Tyler as Chair

Tyler joined the bp board as a non-executive director in April 2025 and was named Interim Chair on 26 May 2026.

bp has appointed Ian Tyler as Chair of the company with immediate effect, following an extensive search process that considered both internal and external candidates.

"Ian brings significant experience providing challenge and support to executive teams, while maintaining strong governance and oversight on behalf of shareholders," said Dame Amanda Blanc, bp's Senior Independent Director.

Tyler joined the bp board as a non-executive director in April 2025 and was named Interim Chair on 26 May 2026. Over a non-executive career spanning listed and private companies in oil and gas, natural resources and engineering, he has worked alongside more than 15 chief executives. He currently chairs Grafton Group plc and is Senior Independent Director of Anglo American plc, having previously chaired Cairn Energy plc and served as a non-executive director of BAE Systems plc.

"I will lead the board's evolution, ensuring we have the depth, experience and capabilities needed to support the company's strategic priorities and long-term value creation," Tyler said, adding that he is committed to regular, transparent engagement with shareholders.

bp also announced that Blanc will not stand for re-election at the 2027 AGM and will step down once a successor as Senior Independent Director is appointed. She has led the chair search process and will remain on the board through the transition.
