Chinese EV giant BYD is pushing electric mobility into a new era with the nationwide rollout of its 1500 kW megawatt flash‑charging network, a system now in final testing ahead of its March 5 technology showcase. Early demonstrations in Shenzhen reveal a charging speed capable of adding 400 km of range in just five minutes, enabled by a 1000 V / 1500 A liquid‑cooled architecture and a distinctive T‑gantry station design that mimics the convenience of fuel refilling, reports Sina.
The company is deploying a dual‑strategy infrastructure plan, aiming for 4,000 self‑operated stations and more than 15,000 partner sites across China, with Europe targeted for 3,000 stations by year‑end 2026. The system supports upcoming high‑voltage BYD models such as the Tang 9, Song Ultra and Denza Z9 GT, while integrating energy‑buffer storage to reduce grid impact.
Chinese media note that BYD’s Flash Charging App has already launched, enabling instant plug‑and‑charge and seamless payment, marking a shift from “range anxiety” to “refuel‑speed parity.” As rivals still operate largely in the 250–600 kW range, BYD’s aggressive rollout positions it to redefine fast‑charging standards and reshape global EV infrastructure expectations.
