California funds 36 new hydrogen stations statewide
Another 87 stations were also recommended for funding by the same awardees - FirstElement Fuel, Iwatani and Shell - in future batches.
California Energy Commission has approved $39.1 million in funding for installing 36 new hydrogen stations for service passenger vehicles statewide, marking the largest California investment in hydrogen infrastructure in the last five years.
Funds were awarded to three companies - FirstElement Fuel, Iwatani and Shell - under the Assembly Bill 8, passed in 2013.
Another 87 stations were also recommended for funding to these same companies in future funding batches, after which California would have added 123 new hydrogen stations to expand its “early commercial light-duty hydrogen refuelling and fuel cell electric vehicle markets,” according to the California Energy Commission.
California currently counts 42 hydrogen stations in operation.
