Campbell Oil acquires Smith Oil fuel operations to expand in North Carolina

Deal strengthens regional fuel services and preserves long‑standing local operations.

Campbell Oil Company has acquired the gasoline and fuel division of Smith Oil Company, a family‑owned provider based in Salemburg, North Carolina. The deal expands Campbell Oil’s footprint across Sampson County and nearby communities while maintaining the trusted service Smith Oil customers have relied on for generations.

The acquisition enhances Campbell Oil’s position in southeastern North Carolina and gives the company a broader mix of fuel, propane and service offerings for residential, agricultural and commercial clients. The transaction aligns with Campbell Oil’s strategy of partnering with independent, family‑run businesses seeking stable, long‑term ownership transitions.

“Smith Oil Company has built a reputation for reliability, craftsmanship, and customer‑first service,” said Tracy Hardin, Vice President of Short Truck Operations at Campbell Oil Company. “We are honored to continue that legacy while expanding service capabilities and long‑term support for customers in Sampson County.”

Hardin added that deeper expansion in the area will reinforce the company’s community‑focused approach. “We look forward to building strong, long‑term relationships with our new customers while continuing the family‑owned values both companies share.”

Campbell Oil says it will continue pursuing strategic acquisitions with established fuel and energy providers looking for a family‑owned partner to support future growth and continuity.
