Casino Group secures long-term deal to run SPAR in France
Partnership extended to 2039, reinforcing SPAR’s nationwide expansion strategy.
Casino Group and SPAR International have strengthened their nearly three-decade relationship by signing a new long-term agreement running until 2039. The move transitions their previous renewable‑every‑ten‑years model into a stable, multi‑year commitment aimed at supporting France’s growing convenience retail market.
The renewed partnership ensures Casino Group remains SPAR’s exclusive operator in France, where it already manages more than 700 stores, most of them franchised. The chain has become a key pillar of the company’s proximity strategy, particularly in rural, mountain, coastal and other highly seasonal areas.
Philippe Palazzi, CEO of Casino Group, said: “This partnership is designed for the long-term and gives us clear strategic visibility to accelerate the renewal of the SPAR brand in France.”
Tobias Wasmuht, CEO of SPAR International, noted: “We are delighted to confirm this continuation of our partnership, which highlights our commitment to growing the brand’s presence through collaboration with local partners, such as Casino Group.”
The renewal aligns with Casino’s ongoing relaunch of the SPAR brand, notably through its “Origins” store concept introduced in July 2025. The initiative focuses on modernizing stores and offering product ranges tailored to local needs, reinforcing the brand’s role as a neighborhood retailer.
