Cosmo launches QR-based app feature to speed up fueling across Japan

New function allows drivers to pre-set preferences for faster transactions at service stations.

Japanese Cosmo Oil Marketing has introduced a new app feature to streamline refueling, enabling users to pre-configure fueling preferences, reducing steps at the pump and improving transaction speed across participating service stations.

The feature allows drivers to store up to three preset combinations, including fuel type, refueling amount or spending limit, loyalty point usage and payment method. Once configured, users can activate these settings at the pump by scanning a QR code, automatically applying both discounts and selected preferences without additional input.

The functionality aims to reduce the need for manual interaction with pump interfaces, supporting a quicker and more consistent fueling experience. It is available at more than 1,000 Cosmo service stations nationwide that support the app, although compatibility may vary at some locations.

Cosmo’s app integrates multiple services beyond fueling, including mobile payments, car wash discounts and vehicle service bookings. Originally launched in 2019 and relaunched in 2025 with expanded capabilities, the app has surpassed 12 million cumulative downloads as of March 2026.
