CU pilots pet supply shop-in-shops across convenience stores
South Korea’s CU is deploying dedicated displays from the unmanned pet store chain Amudoeopgae at 10 stores, offering 77 products from treats and toys to hygiene and walking supplies.
BGF Retail’s convenience store chain CU has partnered with pet store brand Amudoeopgae to introduce shop-in-shop pet sections in its stores. Dedicated displays have been installed at 10 stores across South Korea as part of a pilot.
The sections offer 77 Amudoeopgae-exclusive products for dogs and cats. They include treats such as cans, chew sticks and cookies, toys like balls and plush dolls, toilet pads and anti-tick walking sprays, so customers can buy food, hygiene and walking items in one place. Amudoeopgae is a pet supplies franchise built on 24-hour unmanned stores.
“As the number of pet-owning households increases, demand to buy various products such as feed, snacks and hygiene items at nearby convenience stores is also growing,” said Shin Sang-yong, Service Platform Team Leader at BGF Retail. “CU will continue to discover differentiated products and services that convenience stores can offer through collaborations with specialty brands.”
Stores were selected based on existing pet product sales and potential demand. The pilot focuses on large apartment complexes outside the capital region, areas with a high concentration of female customers and locations near parks and walking trails.
As specialty pet stores are concentrated in the Seoul metropolitan area, CU plans to expand the format to major regional commercial areas, with product ranges tailored to each location.
