DeliMart stores to close and open as Casey’s in Iowa
Five locations were sold after the owner of the network passed away due to complications linked with COVID-19.
Five DeliMart locations in Iowa City will be closed down and reopened as Casey’s general stores.
Casey’s will now operate these sites and offer former DeliMart employees a role at each of the rebranded outlets. According to a report by local news site The Gazette, brothers John and Frank Moreland inaugurated the first branded site in 1985.
The first expansion came three years later, as a second store was opened on Mormon Trek Boulevard in 1988. Four more locations followed in the same area and Coralville, alongside a car wash. Not too long after that, the sixth store closed, leaving four DeliMarts in Iowa City and one in Coralville.
“We created the image from scratch. We had a lot of ideas from other stores and stuff like that. We just came up with the concept and all that,” John Moreland described in an interview with The Gazette. In 2005, Frank bought all the stores from his brother.
Frank passed away in November of 2021 at the age of 59 due to complications linked with COVID-19.
