Digicel PNG and Puma Energy launch mobile wallet fuel payments

The "Fuel Up and Go with Digicel PNG CellMoni" initiative enables cashless transactions directly from a customer's mobile phone.

Digicel PNG has partnered with Puma Energy to allow customers at participating service stations in Papua New Guinea to pay for fuel using the CellMoni mobile wallet, in a move the companies say eliminates the need for cash at the forecourt.

The initiative, branded "Fuel Up and Go with Digicel PNG CellMoni," enables cashless transactions directly from a customer's mobile phone. Payments are currently available at selected Puma Energy stations in Port Moresby as well as locations in Lae (Eriku) and Madang Town.

Thompson Sakyi, Managing Director for Digicel PNG Mobile Financial Services, said the partnership addresses a practical gap for everyday consumers. "Fuel is an essential, everyday purchase for many Papua New Guineans. By enabling CellMoni payments at Puma Energy stations, we are making it easier for customers to pay quickly, safely, and without the need for cash. This is about simplifying daily transactions and giving our customers greater control and confidence in how they manage their money."

In addition to speed and convenience, the wallet allows users to track spending directly through the app, removing the need to handle change or carry large amounts of cash, a security consideration in some markets.
