EG Group to appoint former BP exec to its board

John Carey could join the board of EG Group as an independent director as soon as next week, according to Sky News.

International petrol station giant EG Group is looking to bolster its board with the addition of former BP executive John Carey as an independent director, reports Sky News.

After questions surrounding the corporate governance of EG Group, which came to light after its recent acquisition of Asda, the company is naming a series of independent board members.

Sky News has learnt that John Carey, a former BP executive, is in advanced talks to join EG Group as a non-executive director.

Carey also worked for the Abu Dhabi national oil company Adnoc Distribution as its deputy chief executive.

EG Group has expanded internationally through a string of debt-led acquisitions, and now operates approximately 6,000 sites, serving 23 million customers every week.
