EG Group to replace eight service stations with Asda stores
The company has unveiled a £2.5 million scheme to further deploy their Asda on the Move format throughout Wolverhampton.
EG Group is planning to replace at least eight service stations with Asda convenience stores or food service developments. The company applied for permission for a £2.5m scheme in Wolverhampton to demolish several sites and deploy the retail brand.
As a report by the local news site Forecourt Trader informed, EG has recently applied for this kind of permission to take down an Esso station and Spar store in Merry Hill. This situation has been repeated throughout the year by the firm, with plans to bring down two forecourts in Sunderland, Glasgow and ones in Liverpool, Poole and Bolton. All are set to be replaced by an Asda on the Move store, except one location in Sunderland, scheduled to be replaced with a restaurant with drive-thru services.
EG Group has been growing the Asda brand since its acquisition last year. Both firms have completed the roll out of 50 on the Move stores, with plans for more openings in the near future, as well as expanding the retailer's formats and footprint throughout the UK.
Asda has recently opened its first express format, wholly owned and operated by the brand. This is a separated branch from the Asda On the Move convenience sites, which are located on garage forecourts owned and operated by EG Group.
