Egypt targets to reach 1,000 natural gas filling stations in 2021
The goal set represents over a 200% increase of the country’s natural gas filling network, as currently there are 306 filling stations active.
Egypt is planning to rise the country’s gas natural vehicle (GNV) filling infrastructure from 306 to 1,000 stations by the end of 2021, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Tarek al-Mulla, stated in a meeting last Wednesday. The goal set represents an increase of Egypt’s GNV retail filling network by more than 200%.
The plans will be partially achieved by introducing NGV filling services at existing fuel stations offering octane. In addition, the private sector will be encouraged to roll out new NGV exclusive filling stations, reports Egypt Today.
At the meeting, Tarek al-Mulla pointed out to the Government’s goal to transform 450,000 fuel-powered into gas-powered vehicles during the period 2020-2023. Out of those, 250,000 units would be brand-new vehicles supported within a funding scheme offered to consumers.
From July 2020 until now, 42,000 cars have been transformed to gas-powered vehicles, raising the country’s count to a total of 360,000 cars running on natural gas.
