EVgo unveils 750kW charging platform for future EVs
The next-generation system features dynamic power sharing, NACS connectors and a driver-focused design, supporting faster charging as vehicle battery capabilities continue to evolve.
EVgo has revealed a preview of its next-generation fast-charging system, designed to deliver up to 750 kW of charging power and support future electric vehicles (EV) with higher charging capabilities.
The new architecture is being designed, developed and tested at EVgo’s Innovation Lab in El Segundo, California, with support from technology partner Delta Electronics. According to the company, the platform is intended to future-proof its charging network as vehicle battery technology advances and charging speeds continue to increase.
“EVgo has served EV drivers for over 15 years, and our investment in our 750kW next-generation architecture future-proofs our network for current and future vehicles,” said Badar Khan, CEO of EVgo.
The charging system incorporates several features aimed at improving the user experience, including enhanced cable maneuverability, touchless payment functionality and updated hardware and software designed to improve reliability. Each charging station will also include North American Charging Standard (NACS) connectors, supporting EVgo’s strategy to expand compatibility with a broader range of electric vehicles.
A key element of the new platform is dynamic power sharing, which automatically distributes available power across charging dispensers based on vehicle requirements.
EVgo expects the system to be capable of charging the fastest-charging vehicles available in the U.S. market in approximately 10 minutes, while also supporting greater flexibility as EV battery technologies continue to diversify. The final charger design is expected to be unveiled in 2027, when the company plans to begin deploying the new architecture across its network.
