Fastned opens two new fast charging stations in Switzerland

The two new sites continue Fastned's growth strategy of expanding into high-power locations across German-speaking Switzerland.

Fastned has opened two new fast charging stations in German-speaking Switzerland, in Schaffhausen-Herblingen and St. Margrethen, extending its Swiss network into urban and peri-urban areas and adding coverage in two new cantons.

The Schaffhausen-Herblingen site marks Fastned's first station in the canton of Schaffhausen. It features eight charging bays and four Alpitronic chargers delivering up to 400 kW each, making it one of the most powerful public fast charging stations in the region, with drivers able to add up to 300 km of range in around 15 minutes depending on vehicle type. The station is aimed at commuters, through-traffic and local residents.

In St. Margrethen, a second station with eight charging bays and four 400 kW units has opened on the site of Bauwerk Group Schweiz AG, in the canton of St. Gallen near the borders with Austria and Germany. Both stations include a kiosk with restroom facilities.

"Schaffhausen and St. Margrethen show where our network in Switzerland is heading: we're complementing our motorway rest-stop stations with high-power sites where people actually live and work," said Christine Zingg-Graf, Country Director Switzerland at Fastned. "Good charging infrastructure needs to be built where it's needed, and that's exactly what we're doing with these two stations."

Following its first Swiss station in Kloten, the two new sites continue Fastned's growth strategy of expanding into high-power locations across German-speaking Switzerland, with further stations in the pipeline.

Fastned has been developing fast charging infrastructure across Europe since 2012.
