Gasum and Preem join forces to expand biogas access in Sweden
The deal will allow Preem’s corporate customers to refuel biogas at Gasum’s network.
Energy companies Gasum and Preem have agreed a strategic partnership to make renewable biogas more widely available for Sweden’s road transport industry. The deal will allow Preem’s corporate customers to refuel with compressed (CBG) and liquefied biogas (LBG) at Gasum’s nationwide network of filling stations by the end of December, with all transactions consolidated into a single invoice.
Road transport accounts for about a third of Sweden’s greenhouse gas emissions, which rose by 18% last year. Biogas, produced from food waste, manure and other residues, is seen as one of the most effective tools for cutting emissions in heavy-duty transport, where electrification remains difficult.
“Building a nationwide network of LBG stations has been key to helping trucking companies reduce emissions. This partnership makes it even easier for logistics providers to choose sustainable alternatives,” said Sharareh Edström of Gasum. Preem’s Daniel Granquist called biogas “an important piece of the puzzle” in reducing fossil fuel dependence.
Sweden aims to cut domestic transport emissions by 70% by 2030, but experts say this will require a major shift towards renewable fuels. The Gasum–Preem deal is a small but significant step towards that goal, making low-carbon options easier to access for logistics companies.
