GS25 to pilot currency exchange kiosks at stores in Korea
The retailer has partnered with Oody to install the equipment across 10 locations, including outlets in Gimpo International Airport and the Dongdaemun district.
GS Retail has deployed several Buddycash currency exchange kiosks across its GS25 convenience stores in South Korea. This new partnership with Oody, the developer of the automated machine, involves expanding the brand’s convenience services for foreign customers and ease up their travelling necessities.
The firm has expanded financial convenience services beyond operating foreign currency payment services and tax refund services in collaboration with banks. The pilot project involves the deployment of kiosks in 10 locations of its GS25 and GS The Fresh brands, including outlets in Gimpo International Airport and the Dongdaemun district in Seoul.
These areas were selected due to being popular with foreign and domestic tourists. The integrated foreign currency management service includes currency from 15 countries, including dollar, yen, and euro, to exchange for won. At the same time, the Korean currency can be exchanged only for dollars, yen, euros, or yuan.
“We launched this service to provide better financial services to domestic and foreign customers who urgently need foreign currency/won currency exchange and customers who have leftover foreign currency after traveling to meet the increasing tourist demand after the pandemic,” said Lee Tae-young, MS Retail Service Planning Team.
Exchange rate information can be checked in real time via the kiosk’s screen, which is automatically updated every hour in conjunction with the representative bank’s information. Foreign currency coins that are not handled by banks can be converted into points and used in various ways, such as purchasing GS25 products.
