H2 Mobility, rnv open new hydrogen station
The German site is publicly accessible offering both 350-bar and 700-bar refueling.
H2 Mobility has opened a new hydrogen refueling station in Ludwigshafen. The facility, located next to the Rhein-Neckar-Verkehr GmbH (rnv) depot, will serve eight eCitaro G fuel cell range-extender buses procured under the H2Rivers funding programme. It also supports other hydrogen-powered vehicles, including a waste collection truck operated by Wirtschaftsbetriebe Ludwigshafen.
The station, jointly implemented by H2 MOBILITY and rnv, is the third of its kind in the region, following openings in Heidelberg-Wieblingen and Mannheim. All sites are publicly accessible and offer both 350-bar and 700-bar refuelling, catering to buses, trucks and other vehicles.
Federal Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder described hydrogen as “a crucial building block for climate-friendly mobility,” highlighting €20 million in federal support for the HyPerformer region H2Rivers. The initiative aims to demonstrate how hydrogen technologies can work in everyday practice.
Dagmar Fehler of NOW GmbH called the Ludwigshafen station “a strong signal for climate action,” while rnv’s Yunus Keskin stressed its importance for achieving regional climate targets.
The Rhine-Neckar region now hosts four hydrogen stations, 48 fuel cell buses and ten hydrogen-powered waste collection vehicles under the H2Rivers and H2Rhein-Neckar projects, which together represent nearly €100 million in investment.
