Hyundai pilots AI EV charging robot at airport station
Partnership with Incheon aims to redefine airport convenience with automated, AI-powered EV charging services.
Hyundai Motor Group has partnered with Incheon International Airport Corporation (IIAC) to launch a pilot project deploying AI-powered electric vehicle (EV) automatic charging robots (ACRs) at South Korea’s largest international gateway.
This collaboration will see Incheon International Airport serve as the testbed for Hyundai’s next-generation ACR technology. Designed to deliver seamless, secure, and user-friendly EV charging, the robots will undergo real-world testing at the airport, with a focus on usability, safety, and operational integration.
Carrying both Korean and European certifications, Hyundai’s ACRs meet rigorous safety and quality standards, reinforcing their readiness for deployment in high-traffic environments.
“This collaboration allows us to verify the real-world benefits of combining Hyundai’s robotics and AI expertise with Incheon Airport’s operational excellence,” said Heui Won Yang, President and Head of the R&D Division at Hyundai Motor Group. “Together, we aim to create an advanced mobility experience that sets the standard for global transportation infrastructure.”
The robots will not only automate EV charging but also help optimize energy efficiency and reduce service bottlenecks as passenger volumes rise.
Looking ahead, Hyundai and IIAC plan to scale the ACR service to other transportation hubs including seaports and railway stations, promoting a broader electrification strategy and supporting South Korea’s vision for sustainable smart infrastructure.
