MOL Lubricants launches eco-friendly bag-in-box packaging
The company’s engine and transmission oils will be available in 5- and 20-litre bag-in-box formats.
MOL Lubricants has introduced a new sustainable packaging solution aimed at reducing plastic waste and improving operational efficiency. From September, the company’s engine and transmission oils will be available in 5- and 20-litre bag-in-box formats, replacing traditional canisters with a more environmentally conscious alternative.
The design features a smart tap system that allows clean and precise dispensing, eliminating drips and spillage. According to MOL, the bag-in-box format uses 80% less plastic than the current 20-litre canister and reduces waste volume twelvefold. Once emptied, the cardboard box is fully recyclable, simplifying disposal for workshops and industrial users.
Beyond sustainability, MOL highlights significant logistical and cost benefits. The compact design means up to 88% more units can fit on a single pallet, potentially cutting transportation costs by as much as 40%, depending on delivery conditions. This efficiency could prove attractive for businesses seeking to lower their carbon footprint while reducing overheads.
Initially, nineteen different lubricants (including engine and transmission oils) will be offered in the new packaging. MOL positions the move as part of its broader commitment to eco-friendly practices and operational innovation.
