Morrisons appoints former Nisa chief Peter Batt as c-store director

Batt brings more than 30 years of grocery retail experience to strengthen its position in the fast-growing convenience sector.

Morrisons has appointed Peter Batt, former managing director of Nisa, as its new operations director for company-owned convenience stores. Batt brings more than 30 years of grocery retail experience as the supermarket looks to strengthen its position in the fast-growing convenience sector.

Batt led Nisa from 2022 to 2024, overseeing partnerships with around 4,000 stores. Before that, he spent a decade as divisional managing director at the Co-op, responsible for more than 1,200 shops, and nearly 20 years at Sainsbury’s in senior roles across operations, commercial and convenience. He has also served on the boards of the Federation of Wholesale Distributors and the Association of Convenience Stores.

Morrisons said it was “delighted” to welcome Batt, praising his extensive leadership experience “across large-scale retail operations.” His appointment follows that of former Aldi executive Andy Gillies as logistics director in August and comes as the grocer steps up its focus on convenience. Batt will reunite with ex-Nisa colleague Victoria Lockie, now head of wholesale strategic projects and acquisitions at Morrisons.
