Plugit and Volvo Trucks completed Finland’s first public Megawatt Charging System (MCS) session at Plugit’s PRO charging station in Kotka. The vehicle was a Volvo FH Aero Electric truck, which can charge at up to 700 kW and charged both through Volvo Open Charge, part of the Volvo Connect fleet management system, and directly with Plugit’s cables.

“Finland’s first public MCS charging session is a significant step towards the electrification of heavy goods transport in Finland. A long operating range and fast MCS charging make electric trucks a viable option even for longer transport journeys,” said Janne Silvonen, Product Manager for Volvo’s electric lorries.

Plugit operates about 350 public charging points, nine of them designed for heavy-duty vehicles, and a tenth is under construction in Eskilstuna, Sweden. Public MCS charging is currently available in Kotka and Lieto. The company is building a network of truck charging above 1 MW along major routes and logistics hubs in Finland and Sweden, and has delivered more than 6,000 charging stations in the Nordics over 14 years.
