ReFuels to break ground on Swindon CNG station in June

The facility will be capable of refuelling 12 heavy goods vehicles simultaneously.

ReFuels will begin construction of a new public-access compressed natural gas refuelling station in Swindon, South-West England, on June 1, with completion expected in Q1 2027.

The facility will be capable of refuelling 12 heavy goods vehicles simultaneously and is positioned with direct access to the M4 motorway, close to major distribution hubs along the high-demand corridor between London, South Wales and the Midlands.

"ReFuels has a clear strategy of expanding the CNG Fuels station network to enable logistics operators to reduce emissions and cut fuel costs while reducing dependency on diesel," said Philip Fjeld, CEO and co-founder. "Swindon and Magor are the next elements of that strategy, giving fleet operators access to a stable, domestic energy source."

The Swindon site will complement the CNG Fuels station already under construction in Magor, South Wales, creating what Fjeld described as a clean fuel corridor supporting the decarbonization of road freight along the M4 and into the Midlands.

ReFuels holds a 40% stake in the CNG Fuels network, which currently operates 16 UK stations serving more than 2,250 trucks daily, with a total network capacity exceeding 11,500 HGVs per day. The company aims to nearly double dispensing capacity by end-2028, targeting 20,000 HGVs per day and over 780 million kg of biomethane annually.
