Scotland achieves EV charging target two years ahead of schedule
The Government has announced a £6.3 million award to build on this success and further accelerate the rollout of charging infrastructure.
Scotland has successfully reached a significant milestone, achieving its target of 6,000 public electric vehicle (EV) charging points two years earlier than planned.
This accomplishment enhances charging opportunities for EV drivers, boosting their confidence in range and supporting the transition to a net-zero transport system. This was possible through a combination of funding from the Scottish Government, increased private sector investment, and proactive planning and leadership from local authorities.
To build on this success and further accelerate the rollout of charging infrastructure, the Scottish Government has announced a £6.3 million award through the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Fund.
“This milestone is a clear testament to our commitment to making sustainable travel accessible for everyone in Scotland. Meeting our charging point target two years ahead of schedule demonstrates what we can achieve when we work in partnership with local authorities and the private sector,” said First Minister John Swinney.
This funding will support 11 local authorities in the Glasgow City Region and Ayrshire, enabling them to expand their EV charging networks.
