Seven & i to open 1,000 new c-stores in Japan by 2030
Retailer plans major domestic and international expansion as it pivots toward core convenience business.
Seven & i Holdings, owner of the 7-Eleven convenience store brand, has announced an ambitious plan to add 1,000 new convenience stores in Japan and open 1,300 more overseas by fiscal year 2030. The company aims to shift its focus more sharply toward the convenience retail sector.
The Japanese retail giant also aims to boost sales from its domestic delivery service through convenience stores more than tenfold, targeting ¥120 billion annually by 2030. To support this transformation, up to ¥3.2 trillion in investments are planned through fiscal 2030.
As reported by nippon.com, President and CEO Stephen Dacus, who assumed leadership of the company in May, explained: “Seven & i will transform itself into a company focusing on convenience store business.” The expansion is part of a broader strategy to consolidate and grow the company’s core retail operations both domestically and globally.
The funds will be used for mergers and acquisitions, as well as store refurbishments, all geared toward strengthening its convenience store operations.
Seven & i projects that its operating profit will reach ¥3.4 trillion in fiscal 2030, representing a 26% increase compared to six years earlier. The announcement signals a significant strategic pivot for the company as it doubles down on the fast-evolving and highly competitive convenience store market.
