Sheetz rolls out crypto payments with 50% daily discount
The company has introduced a daily promotion offering customers 50% off purchases when paying with Bitcoin or select cryptocurrencies
U.S. convenience store and gas station chain Sheetz is making a decisive move into the digital payments space. The company has introduced a daily promotion offering customers 50% off purchases when paying with Bitcoin or select cryptocurrencies. Sheetz is a $6.2 billion business with 750 locations.
While the headline discount is eye-catching, Sheetz says the strategy goes deeper. By settling transactions directly in cryptocurrency, the company estimates it can reduce payment processing costs by up to 50%, a saving that could improve margins in an increasingly competitive retail environment. For shoppers, the benefit is immediate: significant savings at checkout. For the retailer, the advantages include lower transaction fees and faster settlement compared to traditional card networks. Industry analysts believe that if the initiative proves successful, other major convenience, grocery, and dining chains could adopt similar models in the coming years.
The rollout, powered by payments provider Flexa, enables customers to use Bitcoin, Ether, Litecoin, USDC, and other popular digital assets at more than 750 Sheetz locations across Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, Michigan, and Maryland.
To encourage adoption, Flexa customers can claim a limited-time $20 discount on purchases, while crypto payments are now also linked to the My Sheetz Rewardz loyalty program.
