Shell opens first power charger and swap station in China
The oil company plans to develop a network of 100 charging and power swap stations in the country by 2025 and introduce the new concept in Europe alongside the NIO brand.
The first integrated Power Charger and Swap station jointly built by Shell and NIO has officially been inaugurated. The newly built site is located in the city of Xiamen, China, and marks the first location of the company’s planned expansion in the country alongside its local partner.
The new installation offers customers standard fuel solutions alongside several charging points and swap facilities to expand services for electric vehicle (EV) drivers. Both firms agreed last November to cooperate by opening new integrated sites that offer these solutions as well as furthers the decarbonisation strategy of the oil firm.
The partnership plans consist of installing 100 Power Swap Stations in China by 2025 and to begin construction of Power Swap Stations in Europe this year. Shell's charging network in Europe will also become available to NIO users as well.
“Together, we'll be working to improve every aspect of the EV experience. This means we’ll offer Shell Recharge high-speed charging at NIO locations and make battery swap available at convenient Shell locations while also offering NIO customers our best home and business charging solutions,” stated István Kapitány, Global Executive Vice President of Shell Mobility, when the association was originally announced.
