Shell rolls out smart parcel lockers in Germany
Partnership with myflexbox aims to turn fuel sites into multifunctional mobility hubs with 24/7 parcel services.
Shell Germany has partnered with myflexbox, the open-network parcel locker provider in Germany and Austria, to install smart parcel lockers at more than 50 service stations across 14 German states, with further locations planned.
The cooperation is part of Shell’s broader strategy to transform traditional petrol stations into multi-purpose mobility hubs. Customers can now use the myflexbox lockers to pick up, return, or send parcels from multiple carriers, including UPS, DPD, GLS and FedEx.
Jan Reichel, Shell Mobility Sales Manager Germany, said the partnership fits Shell’s strategy to broaden the role of service stations. “For us, the station is where customers find solutions for their mobility needs: diversified fuels, EV charging, car wash and an attractive shop offer. Integrating myflexbox parcel lockers is another step in offering services directly along customers’ daily routes – sustainable, digital and convenient,” he said.
Studies suggest smart parcel lockers can increase customer frequency by up to 11%, and research from InPost (2019) indicates that 16% of customers refuel specifically because of parcel services.
“This collaboration is a prime example of how mobility, retail and logistics are converging,” said Jonathan Grothaus, CEO and founder of myflexbox.
The myflexbox units deployed at Shell sites include autonomous, solar-powered versions designed for energy-efficient operation. The energy giant operates more than 2,000 service stations in Germany, serving over 1 million customers daily with fuel, EV charging, food, beverages and car wash services.
