Snam rolls out new natural gas filling stations in South Italy
The new three sites will be operational from 2021 to strengthen the supply of natural gas in Calabria, where 13 CNG distributors are currently active for some 38,000 cars on the road.
Snam4Mobility, Snam's subsidiary in sustainable mobility powered by natural gas and biomethane, and 4.0, a company that distributes fuel and manages restaurant services along motorways, have signed an agreement to build three new natural gas refuelling stations for cars and trucks along the highway down to Calabria region.
Two LNG plants, intended to supply heavy transport, will be installed on the Mediterranean A2, and a third site will supply only CNG for light vehicles.
The rolling out of these stations will mean bringing liquefied gas to the region for the first time, contributing to the spread of sustainable mobility for heavy transport in the Mezzogiorno. Rosarno would be the southernmost LNG filling station in the Italian peninsula to date.
For Snam, the agreement with 4.0 is part of the initiatives aimed at further boosting the growth of the Italian distribution network of CNG and LNG, through direct investments and agreements with other operators.
Snam4Mobility, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Snam, expects to build around 300 new CNG and LNG stations in the coming years. In its strategic plan for 2022, Snam plans to invest a total of 200 million euros in the construction of methane distributors for motor vehicles, and biomethane infrastructures.
