SPAR accelerates growth in China with new and revamped stores
SPAR Shandong expands its footprint in Northern China with openings and modernised formats across key cities.
SPAR Shandong has expanded its retail footprint across Northern China with a series of new store openings and upgraded locations completed in January and February. The developments strengthen the brand’s presence in major urban areas and reflect continued investment in fresh food, modern layouts and integrated online‑to‑offline services.
The retailer opened three new supermarkets, including dual launches at Xingtai Causeway Bay and Ginding Plaza, both designed around SPAR’s latest store concept featuring optimised floor plans and upgraded fresh food departments.
The Chinese partner also reinforced its presence in the capital with the opening of a fully modernised 2,600 m² supermarket in Beijing’s Chaoyang District. The store offers a mix of local and imported goods, own brand products and an expanded seafood assortment supported by cold‑chain logistics.
Alongside new openings, SPAR Shandong completed six major renovations aimed at enhancing efficiency and improving the overall shopping experience. Upgrades at locations such as Wendeng Huiquan and Zhangcun Shopping Plaza include refreshed fresh‑food areas and the introduction of products prepared through the retailer’s central kitchen, while maintaining locally sourced specialties.
The Zibo MixC supermarket reopened with a new layout across 2,200 m² of retail space, featuring an expanded seafood zone, a larger food‑to‑go area offering regional dishes and baked goods, and a new member‑service section. Additional refurbishments at Weigo, Sanbao Plaza and Sifang Liantong focused on product assortment enhancements and improved store flow tailored to surrounding communities.
Across all newly opened and renovated stores, SPAR Shandong introduced Lunar New Year themed gift boxes and festive merchandising to meet seasonal demand and create an immersive holiday environment for shoppers.
