SPAR Austria to expand E-charging locations to 335 by 2025
The retailer has partnered with domestic electricity suppliers to create 200 new e-charging locations to be added to the current 120 company sites.
Spar Austria and nine leading domestic electricity suppliers are joining forces to expand the e-charging network for electric vehicles throughout the country. By 2025, over 200 e-charging locations will be added to the existing 120 locations at Spar, Eurospar, and Interspar stores.
According to the press release published by the retailer, more than 100,000 electrically powered passenger cars are currently on Austria’s roads, and that number is growing every day. A nationwide charging infrastructure is crucial for future zero-emission mobility.
“Buying groceries and charging the car at the same time – that is the future of mobility. Spar and its partner, the Federal Association of Electric Mobility Austria (BEÖ), will realise this at even more locations throughout Austria in the coming years”, said Hans K. Reisch, Deputy Chairman of the Spar Austria Board.
By adding over 200 e-charging locations to the existing ones at Spar, Eurospar, and Interspar stores and SES shopping centres, the network will be extended to 335 charging stations by 2025 and 535 by the end of 2028. This will create the largest charging network at retail outlets in Austria, with each location will have up to six charging points with 11 to 150 kW charging power.
Currently, there are about 15,000 public charging points in Austria. 8,000 of them belong to the BEÖ network, the largest network nationwide. In the next three years, 1,500 Spar charging points, fed by renewable energy, will be added.
