SPAR Express rolls out two forecourt stores in Switzerland
The stores in Langenthal and Pratteln were launched in cooperation with forecourt operator AVIA and motorway service area operator Autogrill.
SPAR Switzerland continues to expand its position in the country’s growing forecourt business with the opening of two SPAR Express stores in Langenthal and Pratteln. The two stores were launched in cooperation with AVIA and Autogrill, according to a company’s press release.
AVIA, the largest forecourt operator in Switzerland, manages the Langenthal site. The opening of the new store follows the acquisition of 60 AVIA forecourt stores from Store Service AG as of 1 January 2021.
The Pratteln store was launched in collaboration with motorway service area operator Autogrill. The collaboration started off with the acquisition of the BP forecourt store in the Forrenberg motorway service area in Seuzach, near Zurich.
SPAR Switzerland has undergone several changes since being founded in 1989. In 2000, the family-owned business was transformed into a holding company with three operating companies: SPAR Handels AG, TopCC AG and SPAR Management AG. The business grew further, combining corporate and independently owned stores, spanning forecourt retailing to large supermarkets.
In early 2016, SPAR Switzerland announced the sale of 60% of shares to SPAR South Africa.
