SPAR Shandong reopens modernised supermarkets across northern China
International retailer is reopening a series of revamped supermarkets across Qingdao, Jinan, Weihai, and Yantai.
SPAR China partner SPAR Shandong has continued expanding its retail network, reopening a series of modernised supermarkets across Qingdao, Jinan, Weihai, and Yantai following comprehensive upgrades.
On June 18, the SPAR Shandong Qingdao West Coast New Area Wuyue Plaza supermarket reopened after a full modernisation. The hypermarket, open since 2019, now features a redesigned layout, widened aisles, and clearer category displays. Fresh food remains central to the offer, with freshly prepared meals and an instore bakery, alongside smart lighting, self-checkout technology, and a dedicated dining and rest area with charging facilities. The same day saw reopenings at SPAR Shandong Weihai Hanlefang and SPAR Shandong Jinan Huashan Quanhuaju, bringing refreshed environments to additional urban communities.
On July 10, the SPAR Shandong Yantai Laiyang Wanda Plaza and SPAR Shandong Weihai Huancui Wanda Plaza supermarkets reopened with market-style layouts built around fresh food, bakery, and light-meal areas, supported by open kitchens and an expanded assortment sourced through SPAR Shandong's direct supply network.
Further reopenings followed on July 17, with the SPAR Shandong Jinan West Second Ring Road supermarket, originally opened in 2012, relaunching with a retail area exceeding 3,200 square metres and a new-generation format including ready-to-eat dining and bakery sections. The SPAR Shandong Qingdao Chengyang Wanda supermarket also reopened, reinforcing the chain's neighbourhood supermarket positioning across the region.
