Terpel opens opens its first LPG station in Medellín
After opening the first LPG station in Cartagena in 2021, Terpel reaffirms its commitment with the opening of a new LPG station in Medellin.
Terpel inaugurated in Medellin the first public service station that supplies liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), also known as Autogas, in the city.
This site is located at the Las Mercedes station and is the company's second in Colombia, after the inauguration in Cartagena in 2021, where it has recorded sales of 22,000 litres per month in its first year.
LPG is classified as a transition fuel, becoming a widely used energy source in the world with an estimated 27 million vehicles, according to the World LPG Association.
The expansion of autogas responds to the long-term objective of the Terpel Organisation to contribute to the country's migration to a low-carbon energy system, as LPG emits 81% less particulate pollutants and 21% less CO2 than other fuels.
"For Terpel the incursion into the LPG market represents a milestone in its history and in the transformation of the mobility of Colombians. It is a source of pride to have a broad portfolio of services and products, through which we accompany cities like Medellin in its energy transition, and contribute to the fulfillment of the great challenge we have as a country to migrate to a mobility system with low carbon emissions," said Jerónimo González, manager of Terpel Service Stations.
Today there are 800 vehicles converted to LPG in Colombia.
