UK: Jamie Oliver receives backlash for £5 million deal with Shell

Famous chef Jamie Oliver has been criticised for signing a £5 million deal with Shell after years of green campaigning.

The move highlights Shell’s commitment to making and offering healthy, tasty food options at its network of petrol stations in the UK and abroad.

The decision to go into business with Shell comes after Jamie told of a cash crisis at his company, reports The Guardian.

He revealed earlier this year that restaurant chain Jamie’s Italian was hours from bankruptcy before he rescued it by injecting nearly £13million of his own cash. Since then he has shut down 12 of his 37 restaurants.

Jamie Oliver’s approachable cuisine has seen him front numerous television shows and open many restaurants.

Shell has one of the biggest networks in the UK with 1,100 stations.

Neither Jamie Oliver nor Shell have commented on the reported deal.
