Ukraine: OKKO counts 24 sites with solar power
In the coming months, the Ukrainian filling station network plans to install several dozen more and reach 80 sites powered by solar energy.
Ukraine’s fuel retail network OKKO has installed solar pannels at 24 OKKO-branded fuel stations in the country. In the coming months, OKKO plans to install several dozen more and reach 80 sites powered by solar power plants, according to a press release.
In 2021, OKKO will invest over 40 million hryvnias in this initiative.
Currently, most of the fuel stations powered by solar panels are located in Lviv and Zakarpattia regions, where the process of installation started earlier. In the Central and Southern regions, main works are still ahead.
“For each filling station, we calculate the feasibility of installing solar panels individually. This applies to both new buildings and gas stations that are already operating. At almost all filling stations, the electricity produced by solar power plants is now used for own consumption,” says the Head of OKKO’s Development Deparment, Nazar Turhan.
The first solar power plant on the roof of an OKKO filling station appeared in 2017, located at a site in Kviv. As of mid August, solar power plants at OKKO filling stations produced approximately 2,000 kWh of electricity per day.
A subsidiary of the OKKO Group (Galnaftogaz Concern), OKKO is today one of the largest filling networks in Ukraine with over 410 facilities. OKKO also operates the largest network of on-road catering establishments under the brands Hot café, A la minute, Pasta Mia and Meiwei.
