Valora expands avec brand into Germany with Deutsche Bahn contract
The Swiss retailer secures contract to operate 95 of Deutsche Bahn’s 200 ServiceStore stores.
Valora, the Swiss convenience and foodvenience specialist, is bringing its popular avec concept to Germany after securing the contract to operate 95 of Deutsche Bahn’s roughly 200 ServiceStore sales points. Over 80 of these outlets are set to reopen under the avec brand over the next 12 months, marking a significant step in Valora’s international growth strategy.
The move follows the brand’s success in Switzerland, where avec operates at more than 350 locations. Known for offering fresh food to go, avec is tailored to meet the needs of today’s mobile consumers who seek fast, practical meals without compromising on quality.
“Avec offers travelers a modern shopping experience perfectly tailored to the needs of people on the move,” said Philipp Angehrn, Managing Director Retail Germany at Valora Group, on LinkedIn.
In Germany, as in other major markets, foodvenience is becoming a key driver of retail development. Valora aims to capitalize on this trend by introducing its proven retail concept to one of Europe’s largest economies.
The German rollout comes as Valora continues to refine its avec concept in Switzerland. In Deitingen, a newly renovated avec store recently became the first to host a shop-in-shop by Brezelkönig, another Valora brand.
Valora is also experimenting with new store formats, including a recently opened avec location in a residential area near Zurich’s city center. This site focuses on weekday breakfast and lunch offerings, while also serving weekend customers as a local supplier
This expansion is backed by Valora’s parent company, FEMSA, a major Mexican retail and beverage group that acquired Valora in 2022.
