Wawa to foray into travel center business
The retailer has plans to open a new location in North Carolina that will offer expanded parking alongside bigger restrooms, indoor seatings and more.
Wawa has laid out plans to open its first travel center by the second quarter of 2025 in Hope Mills, North Carolina.
According to a report by Greater Fayetteville Business Journal, the announcement was made by company officials during a community meeting last Wednesday. The location will be able to cater to both professional drivers and families.
As Ted Iobst, Senior Engineering Manager of the company, revealed, the site is set to offer indoor seating, expanded parking, bigger restrooms, among other amenities.
The chain is mirroring other retailers’ pivot into the travel center sector in order to tackle professional drivers. In addition, this opening is part of Wawa’s foray into North Carolina as it has recently opened its first location in the state, with 10 in total planned by the end of the year.
This year, Wawa also saw the debut of a new format throughout its network, with the launch of its first modular drive-thru store opened in February.
