Ampol finalizes EG Australia deal, growing network to 1,100 sites
Fuel retailer plans broader convenience, EV charging and low-cost fuel offerings following transaction close.
Ampol has completed its acquisition of EG Australia, expanding its company-owned and operated network to approximately 1,100 sites across the country and strengthening its position in the Australian transport energy and convenience retail market.
The transaction brings EG Australia’s service station network into Ampol’s portfolio, creating opportunities to expand several of the retailer’s customer-focused formats. Ampol plans to grow its Foodary convenience offer, accelerate the rollout of its value-oriented U-GO concept and extend participation in the Woolworths Everyday Rewards program across a larger footprint.
The acquisition is also expected to significantly increase the reach of Ampol’s U-GO pay-at-the-pump network. The company plans to expand the format from 46 sites to 170 locations over the next two years, providing customers with additional low-cost refuelling options nationwide.
CEO and Managing Director Matt Halliday described the deal as a strategic fit, highlighting the longstanding fuel supply and brand licensing relationship between the two businesses. “A larger, combined network of 1,100 sites will provide us the opportunity to better serve and tailor to the needs of more Australians,” he said.
Beyond fuel and convenience retail, Ampol plans to use its expanded footprint to accelerate the deployment of AmpCharge public electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, supporting growing EV adoption across Australia.
As part of the regulatory approval process, Ampol will divest 41 sites. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has approved Dib Group, trading as Metro Petroleum, as the purchaser following a competitive sales process.
The acquisition marks one of the most significant expansions of Ampol’s retail network in recent years and strengthens its ability to tailor fuel, convenience and mobility services across a broader range of locations.
