AmpolCard adds AmpCharge EV charging for fleets

Australian businesses can now pay for fuel, convenience purchases and public charging sessions on one account, as Ampol seeks to add more than 1,000 bays through Evie Networks.

Ampol has extended its AmpolCard fuel card to public electric vehicle (EV) charging, allowing businesses to pay for fuel, convenience purchases and AmpCharge sessions on a single account. The card now works at all AmpCharge public charging sites across Australia, so fleet operators can add EVs without setting up a separate payment arrangement.

Drivers start a charging session with a physical RFID-enabled AmpolCard. Billing, reporting and account management run through the existing AmpolCard platform, combining fuel, convenience and charging in one place.

Brent Merrick, Executive General Manager, Commercial Fuels and Energy at Ampol, said the expansion “is designed to support Australian businesses” as EV adoption grows across commercial fleets. He pointed to the value of “a simple, low-complexity integration with the current AmpolCard platform”, “particularly with commercial fleets increasingly operating a mix of petrol, diesel and electric vehicles.”

The move comes as Ampol pursues its proposed acquisition of Evie Networks, which is expected to add more than 1,000 EV charging bays to its network, subject to clearance by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC). The AmpolCard expansion currently covers AmpCharge sites only.
