bp trials new store formats at London reopenings
Upgraded sites feature M&S bakery, expanded food ranges, and faster checkout.
bp has reopened two upgraded retail sites, Merrow in Guildford and Pinkham Way in North London, introducing brighter designs, broader food ranges, and new features aimed at making roadside stops quicker and more enjoyable.
At Merrow, customers can now enjoy a forecourt-first M&S bakery offering freshly baked sourdough, farmhouse loaves, rolls, and pizzettas, alongside an extended M&S food range. The store also includes a gifting section with flowers, chocolates, and wine, plus a refreshed wildbean café serving pastries, hot snacks, and self-serve coffee.
Pinkham Way brings a modern layout and an expanded wildbean café menu, featuring freshly made ciabattas, smoothies, and frappes, alongside a wider M&S food selection. Barista coffee is available, with self-service options coming soon.
“These sites have been shaped entirely by what local customers told us they want,” said Jo Hayward, bp vice president mobility & convenience retail UK. “This is just the start—we’ll keep listening, learning and trying new ideas to ensure we are the first choice for our customers on the roadside.”
The sites feature self-checkout systems that allow customers to pay for fuel and shop items in one seamless transaction, reducing wait times. Electric vehicle (EV) charging bays complement the upgrades, reflecting bp’s strategy to create integrated locations for both EV drivers and traditional fuel customers.
Both locations are part of a four-site trial shaping bp’s next-generation convenience model. If successful, bp plans to roll out similar customer-led formats to more locations nationwide in 2026.
