Certas Energy expands truck stop network with Watling Street takeover
The project forms part of Certas Energy’s aim to add 10 truck stops in the UK over the next five years.
Certas Energy assumed management of the Watling Street truck stop in St Albans (United Kingdom) this week, marking the first step in a planned nationwide expansion of its truck stop network. The company says the site will reopen the following day after a £350,000 redevelopment designed to upgrade facilities and broaden access to its fuel and service offering.
Situated on the Strategic Road Network, the Watling Street stop serves more than 400 HGVs daily travelling between the M1 and M25, two of Britain’s busiest freight corridors. Certas Energy plans to introduce improved security, refurbished amenities, upgraded parking areas and new card readers compatible with FuelTapp, its digital fuel card system.
The redevelopment is expected to create 13 new jobs, with further upgrades planned, including Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil pumps, e‑HGV charging infrastructure, solar power and Spotless Water services.
The project forms part of Certas Energy’s aim to add 10 truck stops nationwide over the next five years, following its acquisition and refurbishment of The Stop at The Hollies. Mike Heaton, Head of Estate Development, said the company intends to bring Watling Street “up to the same high standard” to support drivers who “help keep the country moving.”
