EDEKA establishes bio-LNG station to fuel delivery operations in Germany
The retailer will become the first company in the country to use the alternative fuels for its transporting operations.
EDEKA Minden-Hannover is the first food retailer in Germany to use Bio-LNG for its delivery transports with immediate effect.
The company has concluded a long-term supply contract with Alternoil for the alternative fuel. By the end of 2025, the food retailer intends to convert its entire truck fleet to LNG vehicles from the manufacturer IVECO and run on 100% bio-LNG.
Alternoil’s collaboration provides a gradual development of the filling station infrastructure at the logistics locations of EDEKA Minden-Hannover. It also provides the supply of REEFUEL, which is produced from biological waste and wind power.
"Through meaningful synergies within the entire value chain, from the generation of the waste-derived biomethane and green hydrogen, to the supply via intermodal logistics solutions, to the refueling of the renewable fuel, we can reduce CO2 emissions for REEFUEL by up to 100 percent, take advantage of economies of scale, and make a significant contribution to climate protection," said Alexander Renz, Managing Director of Alternoil GmbH.
Currently, EDEKA Minden-Hannover has approximately 80 LNG vehicles in operation.
