EnBW opens new charging park with NIO battery swap station in Hamburg

First covered EnBW fast-charging hub in the metro area combines high-power charging with innovative battery swapping.

EnBW has opened a new fast-charging park directly off the A7 motorway at Hamburg-Stellingen, serving both long-distance travelers and local drivers, as well as NIO drivers with a Power Swap Station.

The site offers20 high-power charging points with capacities of up to 400 kilowatts so that electric vehicles (EVs) can gain up to 400 kilometers of range in just 15 minutes. In addition, the battery swap outlet offers NIO drivers the chance to exchange depleted batteries with nearly fully charged ones within minutes.

Volker Rimpler, Chief Technology Officer at EnBW mobility+, underlined the strategic importance: “The new fast-charging park in Hamburg-Stellingen shows that rapid urban charging can be combined with long-distance infrastructure. Locations like this fit perfectly into our strategy of making e-mobility practical for everyday use.”

NIO, founded in 2014, has grown into an international EV manufacturer with over 260,000 vehicles on the road worldwide. The company entered the European market in 2022 and is now active in six countries, with plans to expand to more than 25 locations globally by 2025.

David Sultzer, General Manager of NIO Germany, added: “The combination of battery swapping and high-power charging makes e-mobility in Hamburg even easier and more convenient – for taxi drivers as well as private users.”

EnBW currently operates more than 7,000 fast-charging points across Germany and plans to expand this number to over 20,000 by 2030, investing heavily in a reliable nationwide charging network.
