Eni and BMW Group ally on HVO biofuel for corporate fleets

The fleets operate across Italy, Germany and Austria, where roughly 1,700 Enilive stations supply HVOlution.

Eni and BMW Group have agreed to power BMW corporate fleet vehicles in Italy with HVOlution, a diesel biofuel made from 100% renewable feedstocks by Enilive, Eni's sustainable mobility unit.

BMW Group views pure HVO as a key step toward an "eligible fuels only" fleet and an immediate lever for decarbonizing road transport. In 2025, Enilive's HVO delivered an average 79.5% reduction in CO2-equivalent emissions across the supply chain compared with the fossil fuel mix it replaces.

BMW Group has launched demo and development diesel fleets running on pure HVO, using a new system that cross-references vehicle refueling data with fleet operators' payment records to trace fuel use per vehicle. The fleets operate across Italy, Germany and Austria, where roughly 1,700 Enilive stations supply HVOlution.

"Eni is using BMW vehicles in their corporate fleet, and at the same time Enilive is a major force in pushing renewable fuels in Europe," said Martin Kaufmann, BMW Group's SVP Powertrain Development.

"As a drop-in fuel, pure HVO does not require engines or distribution infrastructure modifications," said Enilive CEO Stefano Ballista, calling the partnership a model for automotive-energy collaboration.

The deal builds on a 2025 alliance between Eni and BMW Italia. Under EN 15940 standards, BMW Group has approved HVO use in diesel models from late 2014 onward with Generation B engines, and BMW Italia is offering an HVOlution voucher to buyers of new BMW diesel vehicles in Italy.
